About the Film

After the sudden death of the town's mayor, Pierre, an idealistic young doctor, is appointed to replace him. He intends to continue the policy of his predecessor, who dreamed of rehabilitating this working-class neighbourhood. Haby, a young French woman of Malian origin living in one of the dilapidated tower blocks, refuses to see her family being driven out of the neighbourhood where she grew up.

Director

Ladj Ly

Ladj Ly was born in Mali and grew up in Paris. His directorial credits include the documentaries 365 Days in Clichy-Montfermeil (2007), 365 Days in Mali (2014), and Speak Up (2016). In 2018, Ly created a free film school, called L'école Kourtrajmé in Montfermeil. His debut narrative feature Les Misérables (19) world premiered at Cannes 2019 winning the Jury prize. It won four Césars including Best Film and played to great success at many festivals around the world. Les Indésirables, his latest film, world premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
