John Guillermin

John Guillermin (1925 – 2015) was a British film director, writer and producer most active in big-budget, action-adventure films. He spent the best part of his earlier career making good B movies, the success came with the thriller Town on Trial (1957). His strength though lays in action movies: Guns at Batasi (1964), The Blue Max (1966), The Bridge at Remagen (1969) full of explosive action. The Towering Inferno (1974), arguably the best of the genre, had an amazing cast headed by Paul Newman and Steve McQueen. King Kong (1977). Death on the Nile (1978) won an Oscar for the best costume design and had Ustinov nominated as best actor. His last film was The Tracker (1988), a western starring Kris Kristofferson.
